Teeth whitening has been a vanity feature for both men and women for decades and luckily the treatments in recent years have been able to cater to all time frames and budgets. It is possible to spend a few bucks for polishes and strips and you can work at it on your own time or Dr Cary can also make it happen for you. The ultimate goal is a brighter smile which helps with self-esteem and overall confidence. However teeth whitening is never a permanent solution to various discolorations and usually requires maintenance for a prolonged effect. Having a white and bright smile can greatly improve your self confidence! Dr. Cary offers two types of whitening treatments – in office treatment with Sinsational Smile or a take home tray option. Sinsational Smile uses a fast and effective technology with a patented pre-filled silicone tray, allowing the jaw to remain relaxed and to make you feel more comfortable. The treatment takes 20 minutes and includes the use of an LED accelerating light that helps activate the gel and results in a brighter, whiter smile in less time. As part of this treatment, you also received a take-home maintenance pen to extend the length of your new whiter smile!
Bleaching vs. Whitening
Contrary to what many believe, the term “bleaching” is permitted to be used only when the teeth can be whitened beyond their natural color. This is a known fact written by the FDA and it applies strictly to products that contain bleach.
“Whitening” involves restoring a tooth’s surface color by removing dirt and debris, therefore toothpaste is technically considered a whitener. Most notably, whitening sounds better than bleaching.
What causes my teeth to yellow?
Certain foods and drinks can dull your smile and stain your teeth. Wine, tea, soda, sports drinks, berries, sauces, sweets, and coffee, as well as tobacco use, certain medications, and age can also affect the color of your teeth.
